Coronavirus (COVID-19) Resources & Updates

Bay Islands Car Share has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety and health of all our members. Fortunately, our car share system is well adapted to social distancing practices. Unlike busses, taxis, Uber or chauffeured community transport, car share requires no human-to-human contact:

  • Bookings are made online.

  • Key retrieval is via lockbox.

  • No human contact is required for vehicle use.

  • Less shared surface contact. Our cars average one traveller or less per day compared to hundreds on ferries and busses.

  • All vehicles contain well-equipped cleaning and disinfecting supplies.

The safety and well being of everyone who uses Bay Islands Car Share is always our priority. These are the steps we are taking:

  • Increasing the frequency of cleaning in all of our vehicles.

  • Regularly sanitising high touch areas such as keys and steering wheels.

  • Equipping all vehicles with disinfecting supplies for member use.

  • Continuing to provide a social distancing transport option.

These are the steps you must take:

  • Spray and wipe all surfaces before and after you travel with the cleaning products provided.

  • Avoiding non-essential travel.

  • Carry hand sanitizer and use it regularly.

  • Take your sanitizer (and tissues) with you when leaving the car.

  • Download the Australian governments COVIDsafe app here

  • Inform us immediately if your or any of your travel party has a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19.

Members cannot drive vehicles if they have:

  • fever or symptoms of respiratory infection (cough, sore throat, shortness of breath)

  • returned from overseas in the last 14 days

  • been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19: (coronavirus) in the last 14 days
